NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A police officer shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at cops in Brooklyn early Monday, the NYPD said.

The officer and a patrol sergeant responded to a 911 call about a group of unruly people and a man with a gun. As they approached the group, a man ran off. The officers chased him about two blocks to the corner of Liberty Avenue and Hinsdale Street when he turned and pointed a 9mm Ruger pistol at them, police said.

The officer fired at the man, hitting him in the torso, police said. Medics rushed the 23-year-old man to Brookdale Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The sergeant and officer were treated at Jamaica Hospital for ringing in their ears, police said.

The Ruger was loaded, the NYPD said.

The wounded man will faces charges.
