Trees damaging man's property finally taken down

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - You may remember Graham Emerson who has been dealing with trees threatening and damaging his Brightmoor home for six years.

But after our story aired the city said the trees would be cut down in two weeks, and it looks like that promise was kept.

Emerson tells Fox 2's Erika Erickson he did not believe the city's promise at first, but how he's never been happier to be staring at stumps.

"I'm not going to complain anymore. I feel this is a job well done," he says.

The city was out that morning to his home on Kentfield chopping two trees and half of another that have been invading his yard for six years, damaging his roof and threatening power lines.

"Getting it done, slice that like you would a cake," Emerson says.

Former Fox 2 reporter Bill Gallagher was even out to get him help back in 2008 when the property was privately owned, but when the city took over the property in 2011 Emerson says the problem became worse and help never came.

Calling Fox 2 for help nearly two weeks ago, Emerson, then, was feeling forgotten in his Brightmoor neighborhood he's called home for 35 years.

Now Emerson is keeping a promise, too, of some new ink to go with his new attitude.

"A couple of Fox 2 tattoos on my legs, one on each leg. I said I'd do that as soon as the trees came down and they came down so, I'm going to go to the tattoo shop and make it final," he says.
