Ausmus apologetic for postgame remark

Posted: Updated:
Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus found himself apologizing for a poor attempt at humor after the Tigers 2-1 loss to the Royals on Wednesday afternoon.

With the team struggling for the past few weeks, he was asked how he is when he gets home.

“I beat my wife,” he said.  He immediately added: “I’m just kidding. My wife and kids are fantastic. I do get a little mopey at home. But my wife and kids are good. They’ve seen me be in a bad mood after a loss. They’ve been great.”

Moments later, he apologized for the remark:

“I didn’t want to make light of battered women. I didn’t mean to make light of that, so I apologize for that, if I offended anyone. Next question. Sorry.”
