We are happy to report on a long and overdue reunion for a marine and his former canine companion.
It's been two years since Marine Corporal Joaquin Aranda and Donna, his highly trained bomb detection dog, have seen each other.
The yellow lab spent 9 months with Aranda patrolling for explosives in Afghanistan.
Now, Donna has retired from military service and has a new home.
Aranda has adopted her.
"She never missed a bomb” he said. “And I'm really proud of that, that's a big deal. It's not how many you find, it's how many you missed and she didn't miss any and that's a real big deal."
This reunion was made possible by the American Humane Association and Mission K9 Rescue. The groups work together to bring military war dogs back to the US to reconnect with their former handlers.
