TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Tempe police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that took place near Arizona State University.

Lt. Michael Pooley says police responded to reports of shots fired around 3 a.m. Sunday near 9th Street and Mill Avenue.

A nearby resident then reported to police a man moaning in pain in his front yard.

Pooley says officers say that man suffered a single gunshot wound as a result of the shooting reported earlier.

He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say 21-year-old Adolfo Jimenez was charged with aggravated assault.
