Body found shot outside Pizza Hut on Detroit's west side

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -- Detroit police are investigating after the body of a man was found fatally shot behind a Pizza Hut on Detroit's west side.

A DTE worker was trying to resolve a power outage Tuesday morning, when he found the body behind the Pizza Hut restaurant on Plymouth Road at Faust Avenue.  The body was first believed to be a man sleeping.

Detroit police say the man was shot at least twice in the chest and stomach.  They believe the shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.  According to neighbors, they heard shot fired around that time.
The victim is described as a black male in his 20s.  He has not yet been identified, but neighbors say they think they know who the victim is.

Police were also called to another shooting moments after the scene cleared outside the Pizza Hut.

"A guy came out the back seat and he was limping. His foot was full of blood and he laid out on the freeway and he was screaming he had been shot," says Rosalind Butler.

A woman driving that gunshot victim to the hospital lost control of her Chevy Malibu on the northbound side of the Southfield Freeway.

"The driver explained that he had been on a shootout on Plymouth at the Pizza Hut off of Southfield Road and she was rushing to take him to the hospital," says Butler. She experienced the aftermath and the accident left her catering truck in bad shape.

Meanwhile, near Plymouth and Faust, police detained a man in connection with the second shooting. Investigators are not entirely sure if it was in retaliation to the morning's apparent homicide, but sources tell Fox 2's Randy Wimbley the incidents are connected.

Water has been shut off to thousands of Detroit residents in recent months. Despite protests, more shutoffs are expected. So, what about water that's running non-stop inside abandoned homes? Soon there will be a new way to stop that, too.
