It may just look like a pool, but for one Polk County family, it's new hope for a better life.
B.J. Mannix, a swimming pool contractor, and local company Viking Pools are making a huge donation to a family that really needs it. They installed a pool, paver deck, and screen enclosure to a family for free. The value is about $30,000.
We’ve been following Lacey Pate's story now for years. She undergoes surgery in Texas every two months for a very rare spinal condition called "Kings Syndrome."
At birth, Lacey's spine was shaped like a horseshoe. Ever since, doctors have been trying to straighten it out by implanting titanium rods. She also has a plethora of other medical issues.
In fact, her parents were told that they should consider an abortion. That was never an option, they said.
With this new pool, her parents say she'll have a much better life.
"She'll be able to move freely," her father, Tim, told FOX 13's Ken Suarez this morning. "They'll be free-moving – therapy."
Our cameras were rolling as Lacey saw the pool for the first time. Her parents kept it a secret.
"Whose pool do you think it is?" Ken Suarez asked her as she was rolled out in her wheelchair.
"Mine," she replied, with a smile on her face.
"I can't talk right now," her father said. "I'm just overwhelmed with emotion. Just to see the surprise on her face. Thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts."
