Alternate side parking hearing

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The New York City Council is holding a hearing on Monday to consider allowing drivers to return to parking spaces once the street sweeper passes.

As the rules stand now for Alternate Side Parking, residents must move their vehicles to allow city workers to clean roadways.

Many drivers wait in their cars for the full 90 minute Alternate Side Parking rule to expire.

Often double-parked during a busy weekday, residents are hoping the city council allows them to avoid wasting time sitting in their cars.

It also could cut down on double parking and pollution from idling cars.

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
