Rochesters Hills home struck by lightning, catches fire

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Mich. (WJBK) - "I was never a big fan but hopefully it will not strike twice" says Ed Gruzwalski, who uses his sense of humor after waking up to find his house on fire.

On Sunday night on Cumberland Street in Rochester Hills, firefighters think lightning may be the cause of the flames.

Scattered storms rolled through metro Detroit Sunday night.

"My wife was trying to use the curling iron. I went and popped the fuse and saw smoke. I went and looked outside and by my son's bedroom there was a little flame," says Gruzwalski.

Within seconds of getting everyone out of the house that little flame ballooned pretty much turning this two story house into a ranch.

The family got out safely, but damage was done with the family losing personal items and sentimental things. They will stay with family until repairs can be made.
