CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man has been charged with the shooting death of 46-year-old Andre Knight last month on the West Side, Homicide Watch Chicago reports.

Courtney Watson, 31, is accused of fatally shooting Knight about 4 a.m. June 23 in an alley behind his home in the 4800 block of West Concord Place, authorities said.

Family and neighbors had said Knight left his home to go to his newspaper delivery job, but when his car parked on the street didn’t start he went to the garage. He was shot moments later.

Police said officers found the body inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. Knight was declared dead at Mount Sinai Hospital less than an hour later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Watson, of the 4800 block of West Concord Place, was charged with first-degree murder and is expected to appear in bond court later Wednesday.

For every shooting on Chicago’s streets, there are role models trying to make the neighborhoods safe for kids. Some kids join boxing clubs, and the safety and discipline they find there makes a difference.

It's been months since the last snowflake fell, but Chicago residents are still hitting potholes that make your teeth chatter. Which is why one Southside resident was puzzled when construction crews began repaving a road that virtually no one uses.
