Police: Man admits to indecent exposures in South Lyon

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH LYON, Mich. (WJBK) - Police say they have identified a man who says he is responsible for three incidents of indecent exposure in South Lyon.

"Our concern was possibly he was going to continue this type of behavior, or this type of behavior was going to escalate," says South Lyon Police Lt. Christopher Sovik.

It's the kind of place that doesn't see a lot of crime, so when something like this happens in South Lyon police get to the bottom of it quickly.

A composite sketch was key in getting a confession and getting this suspect to stop.

"Initially, he was not physically touching anybody; he wasn't verbally speaking with anybody but there's always that risk with crimes like this," Sovik says.

Over the past three months police say someone has been fondling himself in front of young girls near Nine Mile Road and Pontiac Trail. They say it's happened in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree, the CVS and the Dairy Queen.

His victims are said to be between the ages of 14 to 23.

"We pride ourselves here in the police department to keep our community safe, and this is one thing we want to reassure our citizens that we are doing everything we can to do that," Sovik says.

Investigators began narrowing in on the suspect with the help of a description from those who came close to him during the alleged deed. He was also last seen driving a red Dodge Dart.

Police eventually found him looking a little more clean cut at his Green Oak Township home, where he admitted to all three incidents. He was apparently wearing a wig to disguise himself.

"Whenever we got a tip we just basically followed up on that and it led to this. We're very thankful for the conclusion," Sovik says.

A report will be sent to the prosecutors office sometime this week. Shortly after that we'll learn what charges will be filed in the case.
