DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are looking for suspects after vandals disturb the peace at a historic Detroit cemetery.

Vandals spray painted "Spidy" on the wall and scattered ashes at what was supposed to be someone's final resting place inside a stone mausoleum at the 150-year-old Woodmere Cemetery.

Pat Krause has loved ones buried at Woodmere, including her 92-year-old mother Trinie Diaz who was just laid to rest in June. Her relatives' graves were not disturbed but the vandalism itself and what she calls lax security has bothered her for years

"I think that, as owners, they're responsible for taking care of their residents, so to speak," Krause says.

Fox 2 took a look around the perimeter of the property and found several gaping holes in the fence. No one at the cemetery wanted to talk on camera but we're told 12 urns were moved and three families will be contacted about the damage from the recent break-in.

The mausoleum is located at the edge of the property closest to Fort Street. Two-hundred-fifty thousand people are buried at the cemetery including many famous names like Buick, Vernor, Carhartt and Kahn.

Detroit police are investigating. Anyone with information should call police or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP.
