ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) - A Lakeview High School student is dead and 6 other teenagers and one adult are injured after a crash on Little Mack near 12 Mile in Roseville. Family members and friends identify the victim as Aliyah D'Iorio, 16 of St. Clair Shores.

Police say Aliyah was one of eight people in a Ford Explorer heading home from a bonfire around midnight Friday. They say the driver of the Explorer ran a red light and was struck by another vehicle, driven by a 33 year old woman from Clinton Township. That woman was not hurt, but she was arrested for drunk driving. Investigators say Aliyah was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Saturday night, a vigil was held at the scene.

Here's the official statement from Roseville's police chief, James Berlin: "As I start this let me begin by stating that the thoughts and prayers of the men and women of the Roseville Police Department and the entire City of Roseville are with the family of the victim of this morning's tragic accident.

A teen girl from St. Clair Shores was killed and seven others were injured after a two vehicle crash occurred early this morning in the City of Roseville. Just after midnight the victim and the other injured parties were traveling in a Ford Explorer on north bound Little Mack Ave. As the driver of the Explorer (another St. Clair Shores teen) approached the 12 mile Road intersection she apparently disregarded the red traffic signal and entered the intersection and her vehicle was struck by a west bound traveling vehicle. The victim was riding in one of the rear passenger seats of the Explorer and was not wearing a seatbelt. The force of the impact caused the victim to be ejected from her seat within the vehicle and she died at the scene from multiple injuries. The Explorers other passengers including the driver, six teens and one adult all suffered varying degrees of injuries mostly minor. The seven were all transported to area hospitals with four of the teens and the adult being treated and released with two of the other teens being admitted to the hospital in temporary serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in this crash a 33 year old Clinton Twp. woman was not injured as a result the crash. She was however arrested at the scene as it was found that she had been operating her vehicle while intoxicated. She is currently being held in the Roseville Police Department Jail.

The matter is under investigation by the Roseville Police Department's Major Crash Team and their findings will be turned over to the Macomb County Prosecutors Office on Monday, to determine the extent of the charges that will be filed as a result of this incident."
