PHOENIX - Phoenix police are looking for a suspect who allegedly attempted an armed robbery at a neighborhood market co-owned by a Buckeye police officer.

According to Phoenix police, a man in his 20’s pointed his gun at the police officer, who was off-duty and working behind the counter at the time. The two exchanged gunfire and the suspect ran away.

Two young children were at the counter purchasing goods when the suspect pulled out the gun.

Thankfully, no one was injured. The store is located in the 300 block of Alta Vista.

FOX 10 spoke with the co-owner Mohamed Uddin, "he gave them money, then he left, and then he got agitation inside the store again." He says his partner was behind the counter when his partner exchanged gunfire with the suspect for protection. "He protected himself and the two kids," said Uddin.

It is unknown if the off-duty officer used his city-issued weapon to defend his store. Phoenix police are investigating the armed robbery while Buckeye Police conduct an internal investigation into the officer’s shooting.
