Family asks for justice after mother of three found dead next to dumpster

Posted: Updated:
CITY OF DETROIT - When 32-year-old Katherine Gibson was a little girl, her loved ones thought, the "life" ahead of her would be long.

But it wasn't.

"Me and my girlfriend dropped her off and she had just told us, she loved us," said Marvin Gibson, her cousin.

That would be  the last "I love you" that he would hear, because after Gibson's cousin dropped her off at Harper and Conner, near Bronco's Market, the day after she was found dead.

Gibson's lifeless body was discovered by a dumpster beside the building.

"Laying on the ground dead, who would do that to her," said Michele Williams, Gibson's aunt.

Gibson was hit in the head and was strangled, said Shanya Gibson, her sister.

"He hit her with a hammer," Williams said. "She fell and he got on her, and he strangled her to death."

"I love her and I'm going to find out who did this to her," said October Gibson, Katherine's mother.

Katherine was a mother of  three. Her youngest is just a baby.  Now, they will grow up knowing their mother was murdered. Her killer has yet to be caught.

"I'll always love my cousin, she'll always be right in my heart," Marvin Gibson said.

"She loved her kids, she love her family," October Gibson said.

"She was a beautiful young lady," added Williams.

They believe, Katherine may have befriended someone who, in the end, betrayed her.

"(She trusted) everybody, she had no idea anybody would do this to her," Williams said.

Now, the family is afraid for others who may encounter this murderer, this cold-blooded killer, somewhere on the streets of Metro Detroit.

Katherine's loved ones will hold a candlelight vigil Friday at 6 p.m. at Bronco's Market.
