Funeral Services Held For Carjacking Crash Victims

Posted: Updated:

NORTH PHILADELPHIA-Funeral services were held on Monday for the three children killed by a SUV that police say had been carjacked. Two women, including the children's mother were also hit while selling fruit for a fundraiser along Germantown Avenue.

Their mother is still in a coma, the other woman hurt, 69-year-old Thelma Brown, was released and she was among the 1,000 people mourning the terrible loss. The service was held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 16th and Oxford.

“You want to go before your children go. You want them to live long lives and prosper," said mourner Monica Chapman.

They called it a celebration of three angels as the small white coffins for 15-year-old Keiearra Williams, 10-year-old Thomas Reed and 7-year-old Terrence Williams sat at the front of the church.

“It hurts. I was at a loss of words when I saw three of our gems actually left us,” said Dean of Students Herman Douglas.

DA Seth Williams addressed the overflow crowd inside saying the children's' deaths were too hard to figure out and offered hope.

“These three angels are in a better place today,” said Williams.

Another speaker said, "These three jewels were taken from tragedy to triumph. They have gone to a place where every day is a good day."

“These three children died serving their community. Hopefully, those of us who remain can commit ourselves to serving others like they did,”said Reverend Keith Goodman.

There was no mention of the two men charged in the carjacking and children's deaths. Instead there were prayers for their mother Keisha Williams who remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The children were laid to rest at the Fernwood Cemetery.
