Whiskey Row lot to become courtyard venue

Posted: Updated:

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - An area of downtown Prescott's Whiskey Row charred by a 2012 fire will be revived as an outdoor venue.

Property owners Howard and Nancy Hinson told The Daily Courier on Saturday that construction of a courtyard could start in October.

The Hinsons say their plans have received an endorsement from the Prescott Preservation Commission.

The couple says they want the courtyard ready in time for the holiday season.

They say the space can fit anywhere from 300 to 500 people. It would cater to live music performances, weddings, art shows and other special events.

The May 2012 fire swept through the Bird Cage Saloon, Pearl's Place Cafe and the Prescott Food Store.

The Hinsons say they still hope to eventually fill the space with new storefronts.
