AURORA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police in west suburban Aurora are investigating four shootings which happened on Sunday, the Beacon-News is reporting.

Police said two of the shootings were reported within minutes of each other on Sunday night.

The first incident occurred at 11:15 p.m. when a vacant home in the 600 block of South Lincoln Street was struck by bullets, causing $200 in damage.

Witnesses reported that several men ran from the scene, and got into a dark-colored SUV. The vehicle drove south from the area.

Minutes after they were dispatched to the Lincoln Street shooting, police were called to an Aurora hospital where a 21-year-old Montgomery man had been dropped off. He had been shot in the leg, police said.

The victim told police that was walking near Gillette Avenue and New Haven Avenue when he heard what he thought were fireworks. Suddenly, he felt pain in his knee and realized he had been shot, he said.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said police received no 911 calls for shots fired in that area, and that neighbors heard nothing at the time of the shooting. Officers found no evidence of a shooting at that location, Ferrelli said.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Earlier Sunday morning, police were called to another shooting, this time in the 0-99 block of Hill Avenue.

Police said that at around 12:30 a.m. a white sedan pulled up to a gas station pump, and was followed into the lot by a dark-colored SUV. The SUV pulled up beside the sedan, and someone inside the SUV fired multiple shots at the vehicle.

Both vehicles then were driven away east on Summit Avenue, police said.

Police said several additional shots were fired from the SUV as the vehicles left the scene. It appears that nothing was struck during the incident.

Less than an hour later, at 1:15 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of Concord Avenue for reports of shots fired.

Investigators said four people were seen running from an alley at the scene. The suspects were questioned and released without charges after police found no evidence that linked them to the shooting, Ferrelli said.

Nothing was struck during the incident.

Last month, there were 13 reported shootings throughout the city. With less than two weeks left in August, shootings have already hit July's total.

Looking at statistics, shooting numbers for August are also up compared to previous years. In 2011 and 2012, there were only four shootings reported in August. Last year, there were five.

According to statistics released by the Aurora Police Department, in August 2000 there were 18 shootings reported throughout the city. In August 2002, there were 26 shootings reported.
