Let it Rip Weekend: Mayoral race and EM's 'dumb & lazy' comment

We take on the race for Detroit Mayor and the controversial comments by Detroit's EM calling Detroiters "dumb, lazy, happy and rich."
A new poll shows Mike Duggan leading in the race for Detroit Mayor. Could those dirty tricks against him actually be paying off in his favor? Duggan supporter and community activist Malik Shabazz thinks

In the wake of the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, many are raising concerns about the growing "militarization" of police departments across the country.  In Michigan, local police have received tens of millions of dollars in surplus equipment directly from the Pentagon, including assault rifles, grenade launchers and even MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles.  These are the very same things soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have been using.  Are they necessary?  Shelly Weisberg from the ACLU Michigan says no.  She thinks they endanger civil rights.  But Robert Stevenson, the executive director of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, says this equipment protects officers who are facing some of the same weapons pointed at them from dangerous criminals.

Then we move on to the debate over hunting wolves in Northern Michigan.  Many Metro Detroiters would think they don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak, but they'll definitely have a vote.  The issue may actually appear on the November ballot up to three times because of multiple citizen petition drives.  And Lansing Lawmakers could complicate things this week with a vote of their own in the Michigan House of Representatives.  Here to discuss it is Kristin Goodchild from the group Keep Michigan Wolves Protected and Jim Hammill from the Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management, who actually helped reintroduce wolves to the U.P. decades ago, and is now in favor of hunting them.
