One-year-old boy drowns in Troup County

LAGRANGE, Ga. - A family is mourning the loss of a one-year-old boy after he was found in the shallow water in West Point Lake.

According to the Troup County Sheriff's Office, emergency officials responded to the Long Cane Access located off of West Point Road south of LaGrange just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call of a possible drowning. Despite CPR and other lifesaving procedures, the boy was pronounced dead at West Georgia Medical Center about a half hour later.

Officials believe the drowning to be accidental. The Troup County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
