• FOX 2 Internship Information
The FOX 2 College Intern Program works to familiarize students seeking a career in broadcasting with the facilities and techniques of this industry and related fields.

Students observe firsthand how skills learned in the classroom can be employed in day to day commercial broadcasting. Most departments at FOX 2 participate in the program, and all provide supervision at each stage of the student’s activities.

Although interns are assigned by choice and by need to one area for the entire internship, they have ample opportunity to view all aspects of broadcasting. This allows them to be more selective in their career specialty.

Internships are available in:

News
News Planning
Weather Authority
Sports Works
Health Works
Problem Solvers
Web Team
Community Service
Creative Service (Promotion/Production)
Sales/Marketing/Research
Graphic Arts (Students must bring portfolio)

ELIGIBILITY:

Since FOX 2 internships are unpaid, all students must receive credit for internships from their sponsoring institutions. Credit available for a specific student must be confirmed in writing by the institution before the internship begins.

Internships are available only to junior, senior or graduate students pursuing an advanced degree, who are currently enrolled at 4-year institutions (college/university) pursuing courses related to the various departments with available internships at FOX 2. Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts students also may apply, but please note that community colleges do not meet this criteria, nor do students who are in the process of transferring from such a college to a 4-year school. In the latter case, the transfer must be complete and the student fully enrolled in the 4-year institution.

All interns must be recommended by a designated person at their schools. In most cases, this individual will be an advisor, a department head or a staff person who is responsible for coordinating internships at that particular school. This person will be the primary contact between FOX 2 and the institution and will determine how the student will be graded for the internship.

Interns must be available for 12 – 16 weeks (one quarter or semester) and a minimum of 15 hours per week.

All of the aforementioned criteria is mandatory and is not negotiable.

Students will receive a final written evaluation which will be forwarded to their sponsoring institution and will be retained in the FOX 2 personnel files.

Upon completion of their internships, students also will be asked to submit a written evaluation of their intern experience at FOX 2.

At no time does FOX 2 promise or encourage student interns to expect employment with the station following completion of their internship. However, many interns have found positions as the result of their education and experience in our organization. Their ability to be more selective about specialty areas and their familiarity with a major market operation is frequently the deciding factor.

One of FOX 2’s commitments to the community and to our industry is to provide excellence in broadcasting. We believe our internship program will help to achieve this goal. We hope you will too.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Students who meet the FOX 2 Internship Program criteria must submit an Internship Application Packet consisting of the following:

Completed application form
Resume
Written verification of course credit from an advisor or intern coordinator at their institutions

Please note that a completed Application Packet must be received by FOX 2 BEFORE an interview is granted. The packet should be sent via email, fax or standard mail to:
